REGISTER FOR THE MATCH

Registration is the first step to participate in the CAPIC online internship match process. Student registration for the CAPIC online match begins November 17, 2023.

Step 1: To begin, students must first receive approval from their DCT to participate in the CAPIC online match. Consult with your DCT regarding your eligibility to participate in this year’s match.

Step 2: Once you receive approval from your DCT to participate in the CAPIC match, your DCT will initiate your registration by asking InternFit to send you an invitation email.

Step 3: When you receive the InternFit invitation email, use the provided code to begin your registration.

Step 4: Once you are registered with InternFit you can begin reviewing available positions and putting together your CAPIC Internship applications.

CAPIC INTERNSHIP APPLICATION

The CAPIC Internship Application is comprised of the following elements which are each described in detail below:

  • CAPIC Uniform Application (CUA)
  • Letters of Recommendation (3)
  • Essays: (1) Theoretical Orientation and (2) Autobiographical Statement
  • Individual Cover Letters
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Supplemental Documents as needed or requested by site

CAPIC Uniform Application (CUA).  The CUA is an electronic form that asks students to input specific information regarding their education and graduate training. Students must have their CUA reviewed and approved by their DCT before they can upload additional application materials so be sure to complete the CUA first. When submitting the CUA, students will be asked to pay the $25 non-refundable application fee. The CUA form is accessed via InternFit.

Letters of Recommendation. Once the CUA is approved by your DCT, students will request letters of recommendation from their selected references. Students will request at least three professional reference letters using the InternFit platform. Once the students request their letters through InternFit, the references will upload their letters directly into InternFit. Note, three letters of reference are required however students can upload up to five references letters which can be used for specific applications. Completing this step right away is recommended to ensure references will have enough notice to write their letters.

Essays. CAPIC requires two formal essays, the Theoretical Orientation Essay and Autobiographical Statement. The Theoretical Orientation Essay prompts students to describe their therapeutic orientation and express how their orientation informs their style ways of working with clinical populations. The Autobiographical Statement prompts students to share their unique professional story which might include their background and issues related to personal and professional development. There is no set format or length for these essays so students are encouraged to find their creative voice and style. Students will upload the Essays directly into InternFit.

Cover Letters. Students will write a unique cover letter for each site and track they apply to. Students will upload the cover letters directly into InternFit.

Curriculum Vitae. Students will upload their Curriculum Vitae (CV) directly into InternFit.

Supplemental Documents. Students will have the opportunity to include supplemental documents within their applications to each site. Some sites may request specific forms of supplemental documentation so students are encouraged to read the specific application materials required for each site and track. Supplemental document examples may include unofficial transcripts, a dissertation purpose statement or abstract, certifications or awards, or a sample psychological report.

Students will upload application materials into InternFit and will submit applications directly to sites using InternFit.

INTERVIEWS, RANKING, & MATCHING

Interview Phase

To participate in the match, students need to submit their applications for internship placements by February 27, 2024 at 11:59pm deadline.

Following the submission of applications to selected internship programs, students will receive interview offers from placements that show interest in their application.

Internships must consider any application received by the application deadline.  Internships then decide for themselves which applicants to interview and later to rank.

Students should wait for internships to initiate contact with them. Internships have many applications and limited time to interview and evaluate applicants.

Following the interview phase, both students and sites will have the opportunity to rank their preferences using InternFit.

Online Ranking Phase

The Online Ranking process begins on March 6, 2024 and ends March 29, 2024 at 11:59PM.

During the Online Ranking Phase, students will rank their internship placements by preference. Participants may change their priority/ranking choices as often as desired until the Ranking deadline on March 29, 2024.

Students are encouraged to rank programs/sites based on their preferences and goodness of fit. Participants should rank their choices based on their true preferences, without trying to second guess how the other side might rank them.

Remember, if you are matched with an internship program during the CAPIC match, the contract is binding. Therefore, students are discouraged from ranking sites they are not interested in.

Students are responsible for ensuring they do not match in both the APPIC and CAPIC Match. If a student matches through the APPIC match, she/he must withdraw from the CAPIC match before the Ranking deadline.

CAPIC uses a matching algorithm that combines the final Rank Order lists from all students and internship programs/tracks. The settings in place (i.e., Rank Order Lists and # of Open Positions) at the time of the Ranking deadline are the settings used in the match algorithm. InternFit then runs the match algorithm to determine the match results.

Match Notification Day

CAPIC Match Notification Day is April 5th. Results will be posted by 8:00am

On Match Day, Students and Internships can log in to InternFit to obtain their Match results. In the morning, students will receive an email from InternFit about their match results and will be encouraged to login to InternFit to view their official results.

Congratulations! An online match constitutes a binding internship agreement.

Students who do not receive a match on April 5th are encouraged to participate in the CAPIC Clearinghouse. See below for more information.

CLEARINGHOUSE

Clearinghouse

The CAPIC Clearinghouse begins April 6th.

The CAPIC Clearinghouse is an opportunity for students to apply to internship placements and tracks that have available positions following the initial match. To participate in Clearinghouse, students must be registered for the 2023-2024 CAPIC Match.

Students who participated in the initial application process and match will remain registered with InternFit and therefore, do not need to re-register. Student materials from the initial phase of the match will remain on the InternFit portal. The application fee previously paid by students still covers their participation through Clearinghouse. In other words, there is no additional fee to participate in Clearinghouse.

New students who are joining CAPIC during Clearinghouse need to consult with their DCT to determine eligibility for participating in Clearinghouse and actively applying to internship placements. Once deemed eligible by the DCT, the DCT will submit an email invitation to the student which invites them to register with InternFit. Students participating in Clearinghouse are required to submit an application fee. Details about the required application materials can be found in the above CAPIC Application section.

During Clearinghouse, available positions will be posted to InternFit. Registered students will submit their application to sites of interest using the InternFit platform.

On the page for submitting applications, participating internship sites/tracks are listed on a drop-down list.  Only sites/tracks with at least one (1) open position can participate in Clearinghouse. If a site/track is listed with zero (0) open positions, then this site is not participating in Clearinghouse. However, because internship programs may change their participation in the match process, students should search again for desired internship sites/tracks immediately prior to submitting their applications.

Students who are applying for placements in Clearinghouse, can select specific cover letters, letters of reference, and custom documents (if any) to submit to each internship site/track. Once application materials are submitted by the student, the internship will then receive a link to the student’s application materials, allowing them to be retrieved and reviewed.

Offers and acceptances are conducted directly between the students and internship sites. Students must inform their DCT of any proposed internship arrangements, to ensure it will meet their doctoral academic program’s requirements. Students must also obtain school approval before accepting any internship offers.
