Dr. Montenegro is Professor and Director of Training, Doctorate Program in Psychology, John F. Kennedy University. As part of her role as Training Director and core full-time faculty, Dr. Montenegro chairs the Training Committee, is a member of the curriculum committee and teaches core courses in the Psychology Department at JFKU.
Academic Training includes studies in Licenciatura en Psicologia Clinica, Universidad de La Habana, Cuba; Diplomada en Psicologia Clinica, Universidad de Madrid, Spain; M.A., Social and Personality Psychology, New School University, NYC; PsyD in Clinical Psychology, Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology, Rutgers University, NJ.
Haydee Montenegro is a Licensed Psychologist with an extensive clinical experience. She can communicate in several languages and is fluent in Spanish and English.
Dr. Montenegro specializes in forensic psychology, trauma and culturally-based resilience to traumatic events. She represented the World Federation for Mental Health at the United Nations for 18 years. Her many years of national and international speaking engagements, consulting and advocacy in mental health and human rights, as well as labor issues activism gave her the affectionate nickname of “trotamundo” by friends and colleagues.
Her labor/management background focuses on leadership training, mediation and conflict resolution. The belief that American Psychologists need to be embedded in the political process, took her to elected positions and political appointments. Dr. Montenegro is a member of the CAPIC Board of Directors and a member of APA.
She lives in Concord, CA and has three grown up children and two wonderful grandchildren.
