Dr. Schaefer currently serves as the Vice Chair of the CAPIC Board of Directors, and has held the positions of Chairperson and Board Member since 2003. 

Dr. Schaefer is the Executive Director of the Addictions Institute. In addition, Dr. Schaefer is Co-Director/Founder of Associates in Clinical Therapy, a private psychotherapy service agency. She is a current Board member of both the Division II on Training and Education of the CPA, and the Southern California Association of Psychology Training Programs.

Previously, Dr. Schaefer served as an Advisor/Liaison of the Office of Professional Training Ph.D. at California School of Professional Psychology/Alliant International University – Los Angeles. Prior to that, Dr. Schaefer held the position of Coordinator of the Mental Health and Psychology Doctoral Training Program as well as the Outpatient Mental Health Program, the latter two of which she developed at Tarzana Treatment Centers.

Over the last 30 years, she has held various academic, training, research, clinical and board positions. Dr. Schaefer’s publications and lectures/presentations focus primarily on the treatment of addiction and trauma.
